I wrote this book purely because I enjoy using the platform so much, and I believe it’s underutilised currently. It’s not as vast as AWS, but it has a number of unique and empowering features, and the developer experience is second to none.

Creating Software with Modern Diagramming Techniques

This is the first book I ever published, and hit shelves in early 2023. I never imagined I’d write a book, but when I was approached via Medium, I thought to myself: why not.

I love diagrams, and I’ve always found they are incredibly powerful in conveying ideas, distilling information, and collaborating. Whether it’s a domain model diagram, a sequence diagram to understand a complex flow, or a C4 diagram to model your software architecture – it’s covered in this book.

You’ll use a free, open source tool called Mermaid to create all the diagrams. Using simple markup, you can turn text to diagrams in no time at all.

By the end of the book, you’ll understand the most common use cases for diagramming as a software engineer, and understand how to create them effortlessly with Mermaid.
